We are pleased to welcome Gareth Wiles to our Key Account Management team. In this article, you will find out a little bit more about Gareth as he discusses his new role, his current interests, areas of expertise, and advice for anyone wishing to follow in his footsteps.

What is your role at MIDFIX?

I am currently working as a Key Account Manager. My time will be spent managing current accounts and acquiring new ones.

What experience do you bring?

I have spent just over 17 years working for another M&E provider. Throughout that time I held a variety of roles from picking/packing in the warehouse to the internal and then external sales teams. This experience has provided me with a deep understanding of the leading manufacturer's brands supplied within the sector and also an appreciation of the challenges faced.

What interests you about the M&E sector?

I have a continual urge to look up at the ceiling to check for M&E supports. After seventeen years, I still haven't lost the pride of providing a customer with the very solution they need. As the sector has evolved over the last two decades, customers expectations, needs, and challenges have evolved. The ability to deliver a program on time and within budget are still core priorities but now contractors are looking for sustainable and evidence-based solutions to ensure that any asset delivered on-site is compliant.

Do you have a particular area of expertise?

I have worked with several established suppliers to the M&E sector and have diverse knowledge and understanding of a wide range of products. I would say I have a specialist understanding of cable containment. In over 17 years of visiting sites, I have never seen cable containment fail.

What do you do in your spare time?

I enjoy watching Bradford City play, and I also enjoy playing table tennis and golf. I once played table tennis for Yorkshire.

Do you have any advice for anyone wanting to start a career in the M&E sector?

The biggest piece of advice I would give anyone looking to enter the M&E sector is to learn fast. Within this sector, there is a huge range of products to understand. There are also external factors that will begin to change buying behaviour, from sustainability to legislation issues, so it is important to learn about the challenges facing the sector.
